Upbeat Communities: rebuilding a trusts programme for a refugee charity

Trust fundraising capacity and expertise for a charity rebuilding its programme. Results recorded in June 2024.

The brief

Upbeat Communities, a Derby-based charity supporting refugees and asylum seekers, was rebuilding its trust fundraising programme. It needed extra capacity, and outside expertise for prospect research and a case for support.

Its team did not have the trust fundraising expertise or the time to do that work while also developing applications for larger, restricted projects. Part way through our work, its Head of Supporter Engagement moved on, so it needed interim trust fundraising cover too.

What we did

Over a year, we advised the team and provided a dedicated associate with experience of fundraising for refugee and asylum seeker charities.

She built a prospect pipeline to support core service costs, wrote a full case for support, and prepared proposals and applications across a range of values. We also reviewed and critiqued several larger applications the team wrote in-house.

Results

Five grants prepared by our associate had succeeded when the results were recorded, worth £57,000 in total.

Stronger trust fundraising tools and resources in place, and a better understanding of how to access this income.

"We love working with Money Tree Fundraising. They understand our grant funding needs, are clear and transparent in their communication and expectations, and ultimately have helped us secure grant funding we otherwise didn't have capacity to apply for!"
